“Primary Industry, Manufacturing and export excellence award back in for the 2009 Business Awards

The Wanganui Chamber of Commerce, Massey University judges and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise have considered carefully feedback from a number of manufacturing Companies looking to enter the 2009 Massey University Wanganui Business Awards and are pleased to announce the following change.

That the proposed new “Lean Manufacturing” award will not be awarded this year, but will be considered for release at the 2010 Awards.

Feedback from manufacturers during workshops confirmed, that the implementation of Lean processes amongst local manufacturers in most cases is still in the early stages.

In order to establish a fair and equitable judging process and ensure excellent manufacturing businesses were not dis-advantaged, the decision has been made that the “Primary Industry, Manufacturing and Export excellence” award be re-instated this year. This award category will be sponsored by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

Primary Industry, manufacturing and export companies in Wanganui are major contributors to Wanganui’s local economy and the organisers of this year’s awards felt it was vital that we have an award which reflects excellence in this area. We hope that with the re-instatement of this award we will see a good number of entries coming forward for this category.
